In the year 2000 I began section-hiking the Arizona Trail.

I allocated two weeks each year to this effort - one week in spring and one week in fall. I hiked northbound from the Mexican border in Spring and southbound from the Utah border in Fall. I planned to cover about 100 miles each week and finish in four years. I expected it might take five years. It took six.

During this adventure I cached no water and had no support other than at the section end-points. Three sections were hiked with a friend, the rest were hiked alone.

At the instigation of my occasional hiking partner I started writing a journal after each section was completed. I offer these as they were originally written.
